iPhone Datalogger Project Goals

Welcome to this site.

The accelerating popularity of smart phones, especially the Apple iPhone, triggers an amazing opportunity. It is now possible to collect vital real-time health, science, and security data, for telemedicine or scientific study, using portable sensors attached to an iPhone. In effect, the iPhone becomes a “personal data logger” Individual iPhones can act as very important, lifesaving tools for the sick and elderly. Millions of iPhones across society have the potential to become a data collection tool…in real time…on a scale never before contemplated.

The iPhone Personal Datalogger project is a non-profit project to explore this concept. We aim to attach a number of health sensors…including body temperature, pulse oximetry, and EKG/ECG…to a lightweight body harness. These sensors transmit data via serial communication or Bluetooth, to a personal iPhone, which displays graphical data and uploads this data to a remote database or observation/monitoring site.
